Tehran– Foreshadowing Today’s US Headlines

In this exciting edge-of-your-seat spy thriller, we see the IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps) and Mossad in a fierce, white-knuckle fight-to-the-death, cat-and-mouse battle.
Tehran’s main character is Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), a death-defying martial-arts skilled undercover Mossad spy who enters Tehran to neutralize army radar systems and enable Israel’s air force to bomb Iran’s nuclear reactor. Season 1 concludes with a cliff-hanger.
In Season 2 a romance is introduced between a resistance activist, Milad (Shervin Alenabi), and Tamar. Glenn Close plays Marjan, a psychiatrist (as well as a Mossad agent) administering to the rightful fears of Nahid (Shila Ommi), the wife of IRGC’s main anti-Mossad intelligence officer, Faraz Kamali (Shaun Toub). The psychiatrist-patient relationship adds suspense to an already tightly wound plot to assassinate Mohammadi, the Iranian general in charge of attacks on Israel.
And season 3 introduces Hugh Laurie (“Dr. House” from the 2004–2012 blockbuster series), a UN nuclear reactor inspector, suspicious of Iran’s compliance with UN policies of nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. Several subplots including: the Mossad’s removal of support for Tamar’s mission; and an Iranian munitions supplier supporting Tamar, create masterful dramatic twists and surprises.
The female leads bring high-caliber performances with their manipulative “feminine wiles” to delude overconfident male opponents (not unlike “Nikita”). In addition, the unexpected switching of allegiances and loyalties between Israeli and Iranian operatives leads the viewer to the ambivalences and ambiguities of war, conflict, and personal relations. An outstanding series with today’s headlines on prominent display.
